JAKARTA – Chairman of Central Executive Board of Indonesian Logistics and Forwarders Association (ALFI) Iskandar Zulkarnain said the 2015 Asean sole market highly enable the increase of shipping and logistics activities via sea transportation.
“Thereby, the service in the port needs an escalation, especially on logistics distribution,” he said to Bisnis.com (3/6).
Further he said the private involvement in port investment and management in Indonesia should also be increased.
“The private should be involved in the port management in Indonesia. It would be much better if the private sector involved is a national company with the experience in port services,” he said.
He said Indonesian government has guaranteed the private involvement in port investment as contained in Law No.17/2008 concerning of Shipping.
Director of National Maritime Institute (Namarin) Siswanto Rusdi said the government should be more serious to develop the country’s port by increasing the sea transportation facilities and infrastructures.
According to Siswanto, although Indonesia gained higher position from the 50th to 38th on Global Competitiveness Report 2013-2014 based on World Economic Forum data, the government should not take too much complacency over it.
“Our infrastructures, including the port, are still not efficient. We still need huge investors with extensive investment returning period. The fact is most foreign investors are really focus and having high competence as well as commitment in port sector,” he said.
