BANDUNG – Indonesian Employers Association ( Apindo ) West Java chapter asked the government to dredge the Port of Cirebon to boost export activity in the region following the construction of double track rail connection built by the government .
West Java Apindo Chairman Dedy Widjaja said currently the Port of Cirebon only being used for coal transport and unloading with little export activities.
So the presence of double track line is expected to trigger the export activity by local business community while waiting for the completion of the nearby Port of Cilamaya
“Port of Cirebon can be used to help the second busiest port for export at Tanjung Priok while awaiting completion of Cilamaya Port, ” he told Business, Sunday (23/3).
He said he believes the optimization of the Port of Cirebon will spur export activities. In fact, the it could attract more investors for eastern West Java such as Cirebon Kuningan, Indramayu and Majalengka.
He also expects the new President after the election could direct more investors for the region considering that other large infrastructure projects nearby are at completion stage, namely as Kertajati Airport, Cisumdawu Toll, and others.
According to him , the new leader should be stimulating growth in eastern West Java in order to spread the economic activity in West Java as currently tends to be concentrated in the western region as Karawang, Bekasi, and Bogor.
